ROUND TABLE “TARAS SHEVCHENKO IN THE DIMENSIONS OF CULTURE OF THE MODERN UKRAINIAN NATION”

The 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko, the great Ukrainian poet and artist, is commemorated in Ukraine and the world in 2014.

The joint round table “Taras Shevchenko in the Dimensions of Culture of the Modern Ukrainian Nation” held in Kyiv on February, 24 was one of the most notable and symbolic cultural events. It was organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine.

The scope of problems under consideration is immensely wide and multidimensional in philosophical and aesthetic, literary, linguistic, art criticism, culturological, historical, ethno-, psychological and pedagogical vectors. The issues of Kobzar’s versatile creativity topicality for pedagogy of art, moral and aesthetic education of youth were discussed. The talk concerned the outstanding personality’s creative intellect, the role of Taras Shevchenko as a national symbol and talisman, and his pedagogical views.

The range of problems of Taras Shevchenko’s ties with the Russian culture was widely represented. In this respect the report of T. Lebedinskaya, a Professor from St. Petersburg, on the activities of Shevchenko Society in Russia was new and interesting for the Ukrainian public.

The confirmation of the modern sounding of Shevchenko's works, the society consolidating idea of Great Kobzar about the national identity, which is urgent today, was a leitmotif for communication among scholars, students, artistic and teaching communities, cultural and museum workers.
