IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FOREIGN EDUCATIONAL PROJECT INTO THE PRACTICE OF UKRAINIAN SCHOOLS

The Ukrainian schools participated in the International Programme for Personal and Aesthetic Development “Visual Thinking Strategies” (VTS) in 1997, which was initiated by the Open Society Institute of George Soros (New York, USA) and the International Renaissance Foundation (Kyiv, Ukraine).

The Programme applies the art as a means for development of a child’s multiple visions of the world, of the dialogue style of communication with the artworks and with the people around. This takes place owing to the technology of purposeful collective discussions of the art at lessons in secondary schools and at studies in art museums.

The Programme’s conceptual foundations have been developed by the American experts Abigail Housen and Philip Yenawine, and have been adapted to the conditions of Ukrainian schools by a group of Ukrainian scholars, psychologists, and museum staff under the guidance of L. Masol.

The Programme received a wide approbation in various regions of Ukraine during five years, was recommended by MES of Ukraine for further work, and is being used by secondary school teachers in their teaching practice.
