Structure of Arts Education System in the Republic of Moldova

Arts education in the Republic of Moldova is carried out in several forms, one of them being formal (official, legal) basic education, which takes place in state owned institutions, such as: kindergartens, schools, lyceums, colleges, universities, the academy. Education and training is carried out towards achieving some aims and objectives for child’s personality development and subsequent training of professionals for their socio-professional integration. The process requires intensity, concentration of information and continuity. Training is organized in a conscious, intentional and planned manner.

It is carried out by a corps of specialists trained in the area, that teach / convey theoretical and practical knowledge to the young generation. One of the features of basic, formal, institutionalised arts education is evaluation, which may be carried out in specific forms and ways and within certain phases set up for facilitating school progress and successful personality development and for providing solutions for improvement to the developing personality.

The arts education system in Moldova aims not only at implanting moral and cultural values, but also at changing attitudes, behavior and mentality. Current young people are expected to become independent persons, so that they may change depending on changes in society. Implementation of educational and art strategies make for development mechanisms that assist in creating and training:

  • objectives and rules of behavior in society;
  • national values in conjunction with social features;
  • concepts about society;
  • ability to adapt to social environment.

The arts education system is competent depending on the environment, educational practices learned from parents, school behavior, social practices acquired in school. It also contributes to the psychological and cultural development of the individual. Modern society with its dynamism, its flexibility, openness to innovation, requires a new model of human personality that is capable to meet the requirements of 21st century, which was announced as a millennium of continuous change. Arts education gives the impetus to social progress; it offers new approaches to and new uses of pedagogical, psychological, political, social, economic sciences, aiming at training a younger generation, capable to ensure welfare, increased social interaction, optimal conditions for human development.
