Your Own Art at School

Lilit Makunts, Minister of Culture of Armenia, and Arayik Harutyunyan, Minister of Education and Science of Armenia, announced the launch of two important initiatives that have already come truth. These initiatives unify two domains: the system of school subscription to the cultural events and the program "Your Own Art at School".

Presenting the new school subscription system at a press conference held in the Parajanov Museum, Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts said that, "the system of school subscription is elaborated for the students from 1st to 12th years of school education. The program allows each student to visit for free three cultural institutions (museum or art gallery, theater, concert hall) once a year. The school subscription system enters into force from October 1, 2018. It is a pilot program to be probed in this school year. It embraces only cultural centers functioning under the umbrella of the Ministry of Culture. In future we plan to combine the programs offered by cultural institutions with the school curricula".

According to Arayik Harutyunyan, Minister of Education and Science, this year the subscription system will be used by approximately 350 thousand students, in the following format: "Each student will be given an individual subscription ticket consisting of three coupons. At the entrance to each of the three cultural centers, the controller will cut one corresponding coupon. The latter will subsequently be submitted to the relevant Ministry. Financing will be carried out according to the presented coupons. The government has envisaged about 400 million drams for this Program, but the invested amount and the volume of the program are not that important for us, as much as goals we have set before ourselves. The goal number one of the program is to provide opportunity to our students to directly contact to the culture", noted Minister of Education and Science.

The second joint program of the Ministries of Culture and Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, announced by Mrs. Makunts and Mr. Harutyunyan, is called "Your art at school". It is aimed at stimulating students' interest in high art and reading.

"We have included three key areas in this program - classical music, fine arts and literature. In the frameworks of the grant program, today we announced a competition in which representatives of the above-mentioned spheres can take part and submit project with several components: it must have a creative, inclusive and interactive approach. That means the program should contain an interesting idea, which will trigger the students’ curiosity in the above-mentioned areas. Another key objective of the mentioned program is formation and development of critical, analytical and creative thinking among children", said Miniter Makunts.

According to her, 50 artists to be selected as a result of the competition, and each of them will receive one million drams in order to implement the program in a total of 30 schools.

"Within the framework of the program "Your Own Art at School", 50 artists will visit 1400 schools throughout the country with their programs: each of them will visit randomly selected 30 schools. In fact, this can be mutually beneficial cooperation between the schools and the artists. At the same time, this program will allow to intensify cultural life in the rural areas and contribute to the decentralization of culture", added Mr.Harutyunyan, Minister of Education and Science of Armenia.
