8th launch of the “New Names” International Festival

With the support of the RA Ministry of Culture and the assistance of he National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, the 8th Annual International Festival of Young Musicians-Performers "New Names" took place in Yerevan on June 2-5, 2018.

The Festival was organized by the Union of Workers of Culture under the supervision of the Deserved Activist of Culture of the Republic of Armenia Silva Mekinyan.

This time more than 4 dozen young talented musicians- multiple laureates of international and republican contests and festivals from Armenia, Russia, Germany, France, Spain, Iran and Georgia attended this classified music event. By tradition the majority of the invited young talented musicians were of Armenian origin, living far from their motherland. However, due to the festival, they return to their historical homeland, grow attached to their roots, their native country and culture.

The format of the festival, just like in past years, consisted of four concerts. The solemn opening ceremony of the festival took place on June 2 in the Yerevan Komitas Chamber Music House. On June 3-4, young musicians presented their solo performances in the same hall. The solemn closing ceremony of the Festival and the performances of the young soloists jointly with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, conducted by Arutyun Arzumanyan, took place on June 5, in the Grand Concert Hall "Aram Khachaturyan". A diverse cultural program was organized for the participants of the festival. It allowed the guests to better familiarize themselves to Armenia: to see the sights of the capital city of Yerevan, to visit Holy Etchmiadzin, Garni, Geghard and other cultural monuments. All participants were awarded with diplomas and souvenirs of the Festival.
