Under the bright star of Arno…

From 17 to 24 of June, the 4-th international contest festival of junior and young pianists after Arno Babajanyan took place in Yerevan.

The main purpose of the contest festival was to reveal junior and young talents, their future support on their way to the world of performing art as well as preservation of musical inheritance of great classic of XX century of Armenian music - Arno Babajanyan.

 The contest festival geography extends year by year. This year 95 musicians from 9 countries -Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, Georgia, Iran, as well as Russia, France, Syria, Estonia and Kazakhstan, took part in this Festival.

Babajanyan’s forum of junior and young pianists became a platform for many of them for further growth. On its stage, more than 400 players represented piano different schools, various program and level of professionalism. Later many participants became laureates at various international and republican contests and Festivals more than once.

This year the jury staff included honorable writers-pianists, people’s artist of Armenia Svetlana Navasardyan, professors of Yerevan state conservatory after Komitas Vagharshak Harutyunyan, Sergey Sarajyan, Armine Grigoryan, and honored artist of Armenia Armen Babakhanyan. Among foreign representatives of the jury were professor of Tbilisi state conservatory after V. Sarajishvili, Alexandr Garber, director of musical college after Heino Eller in city of Tartu, Kadri Leivategija, the laureate of international contests Gulzhamila Mukhamejanova (Kazakhstan), professor, teacher of Academic musical college under Moscow state conservatory Gayane Axnazaryan (Russia).

“We have participants from everywhere, even from Sahaline. It manifests extending reputation of Babajanyan’s Contest-festival, about the great interest by the teachers’ side, who send their best students expecting not only nice performance, but also victory. It points to the advanced positions of our small but beautiful Armenia in the world of musical process", says professor Vagarshak Harutyunyan, the pro-rector of the Yerevan state Conservatory after Komitas and the permanent member of the jury in the Contest-festival. “We must make this eternal music of the wonderful composer always sound” says Armen Harutyunyan, director of the Yerevan State Musical and Pedagogical College, professor of Yerevan state Conservatory after Komitas and chairman of the artistic council of the Contest-festival.

The organizers of this wonderful musical event were the Ministry of Education and Science RA as well as Yerevan state musical-pedagogical college after Arno Babajanyan. The Contest-festival was conducted with the assistance of the International Fund in the Memory of Arno Babajanyan, Yerevan State Conservatoire after Komitas, the Union of Armenian Composers, the Foundation for the Cultural Education Promotion, the National Center for Chamber Music, Aram Khachaturian House Museum and Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall provided their assistance as well.
