“Renaissance” - Against the Genocide, Against Wars

In view of the idea of the revival of the Armenian people, starting from 2009 in Gyumri is held an annual international contest-festival of musicians titled “Renaissance”.

This year the contest-festival “Renaissance” held under the mo to "Against the Genocide, against wars" and it was dedicated tothe 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the 70th  anniversary of  the Victory in the World War II.

Contest-Festival is held under the high patronage of the First Lady of Armenia Mrs.Rita Sargsyan. The list of organizers comprises the Ministry of Culture of Armenia, Armenian Human Resources Development Foundation "Pyunik", Gyumri’s branch of  Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas, Public International competition-festival “Renaissance”. The main goal of this cultural initiative- to stimulate the promotion of classical and folk music, and the strengthening of friendly ties between the musicians-performers of different nationalities, joining creative figures of foreign countries to the cultural heritage and history of Armenia.

The festival gives young people opportunity to express themselves, to evaluate their skills and compete in performing skills. This year had applied 2800 musicians for the competition, among whom 700 - the representatives of 36 countries: USA, Austria, England, Belgium, Belarus, Germany, Egypt, Yemen, Estonia,Taiwan,Turkmenistan, Spain, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Switzerland, China, France, Russia, Serbia, Syria, Sudan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. In addition to the representatives of the aforementioned countries, the festival will involve children and young people from Armenia, Artsakh and Javakhk.

The opening ceremony of the International competition-festival of musicians “Renaissance” took place on 15 April 2015, in the State Dramatic Theater after V.Atchemyan of Gyumri

Music competitions to be held in the cultural and educational institutions of  Gyumri.

The contest-festival to be held in 14 nominations: piano, string instruments, wind instruments, folk instruments, chamber ensemble, accompaniment skills, academic vocal, choir, musical theatre, pop singing, art song, pop and jazz ensemble, composition, folk singing. The jury consists of 85 well - known creative figures from 20 countries. They include famous musicians-People's Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, laureate of State prize Lucky Kesoglu, laureate of international contests, violinist Catherine Schott (Germany), People's Artist of Armenia Medea Abrahamyan, Professor of  the Royal College of Music Yuri Zhislin, virtuoso guitarist Marco Mina (Italy), soloist of the Opera and Ballet Theatre after Abai, State Prize “Shahimardan Abilov” winner, founder of the school of saxophonists of  Estonia, Professor Dr. Olavi Kasemaa –famous clarinetist, laureate of international competitions Julian Milkis (USA), winner of international competitions, pianist Evgeny Brahman (Russia), People's Artist of Russia, Mikhail Gantvarg - famous violinist, People's Artist of  Russia, known organist Rubin Abdullin, opera director, Professor Janet Aster (France) and others.

Titles of laureates I, II, III degrees, in 41 Subnominations for 5 age group will be awarded 690 participants, and the absolute winners in14 nominations will receive the highest award of the contest-festival “Renaissance” -the Grand Prix. The rest will be rewarded with a variety of incentive diplomas, including “Best Artist of the Armenian composer's works”, “Promotion of the competition committee”, “scenic charm”, “Best Performer of the folk song”, etc.

At the days of the festival, all members of the jury and other prominent musicians will hold master classes for participants in Yerevan and Gyumri.
