Khachaturyan competition's vocal attire

The 13th International competition after Aram Khachaturyan started as usual on the birthday of the great composer. This year the competition, which already deserved the right to be named as “traditional”, for the first time opened its doors in front a new specialty and has provided with a competitive platform to the young vocalists.

 

Khachaturyan competition is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions. The Ministry of Culture of the RA, The  Cultural Fund Aram Khachatryan-contest and The Yerevan State Conservatory co-organize the competition. It takes place under the high patronage of the First Lady of Armenia Mrs. Rita Sargsyan. The general partner of the competition is the Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund of the CIS member states.

This year the vocal competition involved 43 singers from 13 countries – Russia, Kazakhstan, USA, Great Britain, German, France, Cyprus, Mexico, South Africa, Latvia, Ukraine, Armenia and Artsakh.

Famous musicians – opera singers, conductors, music figures, critics, managers were invited to the jury. Conductor Konstantin Orbelyan, Honored Artist of Russian Federation and the Artistic Director of the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Al. Spendiaryan, presided the jury.  

The competition embraced an audition as well as 3 main rounds. Songs of the founder of Armenian classical music – the great Komitas, were included in the competitive contest program.

A solemn ceremony of awarding laureates and a Gala-concert took place on June 14 in the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Al. Spendiaryan. Joyful winners of the prizes performed with accompaniment of the Armenia Youth State Orchestra conducted by Sergey Smbatyan – artistic director and the chief conductor of the orchestra.
