The New Life of the Old School

The New Life of the Old School “A forge of musicians…” – this os how great Aram Khachaturian called the Yerevan music school after Peter Tchaikovsky. The Tchaikovksy school opened again its doors before tutors and their students, however this time they were surprised by the newly renovated and newly equipped building.

The renovation works took almost one and half year and was accomplished already by September 1.

Funds for the repair of $ 1.15 billion Drams (about 2.4 mln. US dollars) were assigned by All-Armenian Fund “Hayastan” (East region, USA). As a result, all necessary conditions for organizing the comfortable teaching process were introduced.
The school was founded in 1939. It carries the name of Peter Tchaikovsky since 1940. Many of its graduates have become winners of international competitions. Only in the last 25 years the number reached more than 100 people. Currently, the school hosts more than 600 students, who, along with a high quality music education, acquire the general education as well. Most of the graduates continue their studies at the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas.
On the occasion of the opening of the renovated building President of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsyan and number of other guests visited this “Forge of Musicians”. The high guest, accompanied by Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan, Mayor of Yerevan Mr. Taron Margaryan, the representatives of the All-Armenian Fund “Hayastan” and music school leadership, toured the renovated building of the school, got acquainted with the study conditions, talked to the teachers and pupils of the school, with whom in the fully renovated hall listened to a concert performed by talented school students - winners of international and national competitions.
According to the director of All-Armenian “Hayastan” Fund Ara Vardanyan: " It is the only and unique school in Yerevan that has such technical equipment. The school was overhauled; number of key issues was solved. As a result, all the conditions for a comfortable teaching process were achieved. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children who attend this school, you realize that it was not in vain. For Armenia, the school pupils more expensive than oil, because oil reserves can result, nonetheless talents will never dry out".
