New Names Conqueres Beirut

People in Beirut still keep in their memories performances of “New Names of Armenia”, whose last concert tour in Lebanon was organized around 2 decades ago. Many of these young performers are now famous musicians, laureates of prestigious international competitions.

This time the invitation to organize a concert tour was received from the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Lebanon, headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Samvel Mkrtchyan.

The organizers attached great importance to maintaining close communication between the young generation of the local Armenian community and the modern New Names, that are going to become the future representatives of the performing art in Armenia. Concerts began with the anthems of both countries – Armenia and Lebanon.

4 concert evenings took place in the hall of the Theater “Hovhannes Poghosyan”, at the University “Haykazyan”, at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik. In all of those venues the performances of young Armenian musicians were a great success and were greeted by a standing ovation from the audience.

For the participants of the “New Names” this was not a regular concert trip, but also a great opportunity to meet their Armenian peers from abroad, make new friends, introduce them to the works of Armenian composers, as well as get acquainted with the sights of Beirut, historical monuments of Armenian, ancient Roman and Arab cultures on Lebanese land.

The visits to the Armenian village of Anjar were especially memorable, where the city's Mayor rganized the special reception in his office in honor of the young musicians, as well as the Memorial Museum “Bird's Nest” - the famous House-orphanage of the Danish missionary Maria Jacobsen, who saved and sheltered more than 1,500 Armenian orphans during the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

“New Names of Armenia” children visited the Cilician Catholicosate of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Armenian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Holy Mother-of-God Bzommar, as well as had a guided tour throughout the unique museum exhibition.

And last, but not least, the famous stalactite cave of Jaita - one of the modern 7 wonders of the world - will long remain in the memory of young artists.
