Open Doors of the Museum Night...

This year, the "Museums’ Night" took place in Armenia for the 15th time. The event was supported by the ICOM ("International Council of Museums"), UNESCO and the Council of Europe.

It traditionally takes place on the next Saturday after the International Museum Day, celebrated on May 18.

The international day of museums has been celebrated since 1977, annually uniting more than 30 thousand museums around the world on May 18. These two days have become one of the most beloved holidays in our country, proved with the annually increasing number of participating museums and thousands of people visiting them.

This year, 116 museums from Armenia and Artsakh joined the event and opened their doors to visitors for two days. According to the format of the events, the museums hosted a huge number of visitors from infants to senior citizens from 10:00 to 18:00 on May 18, and from 18:00 to midnight on May 19.

The motto for the International Day of Museums in 2018, chosen by ICOM, was "Museums in the era of hyper-communications: new approaches, new audiences". At the same time, the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the 2800th Anniversary of the foundation of the city of Yerevan were reflected in the two-day program of museum events. The organized events once again contributed to the main goal of popularization of the native culture and heroic pages of Armenian history, as well as the preservation, dissemination and acquaintance of our generations with the cultural values and the involvement of different age groups and layers of society in these kinds of events.
